Is qualifying going to be normal again finally with timed laps or are they still doing the new group heats artificial elimination garbage etc?
Qualifying for the Daytona 500 hasn't changed, timed laps, top 2 times locked in to the front row. Rest of the field determined by the twin qualifying races. The other tracks will be doing that knockout qualifying crap.

Stage lengths announced for the new gimmick format at Daytona...
1) 60 laps
2) 60 laps
3) 80 laps
The first thing that jumps out is that with mandatory stops for the field every 60 miles, you're only going to have to pit once before that...so what incentive do they have to actually race before that first pit stop?
The Bush series stages are even shorter, so they won't even have to pit at all outside of cautions between stages. Which is probably the better format if you're goint to do stages.

It's back to the timed lap format, but looks like they're adding a cut-off gimmick. FIrst lap is to determine a top 12. Thouse outside of top 12 are done, and then the 12 do one more lap to determine spots 1 and 2 in the front row.
Could be worse, I guess.
