Because tRant has suddenly become a Big 8/12/11(?) hotbed, a history lesson.

To all of the Oklahomers on this board, let's go over the facts.
Oklahoma (and Nebraska for that matter) had some of the easiest routes to national titles before conference realignment in 1996. Conincidentially, Oklahoma had 6 of its 7 claimed national championships (probably more if you were taught math in Alabama) before this date. Nebraska won 4 of its 5 claimed titles before the merger, and shared its post merger title with Michigan. (The only other team to win a national title from the Big 8 was Colorado, in 1990, aided by the 5th down game and shared its title with Georgia Tech.)
Why is this significant? Before merging with the fabled and notorious SouthWest Conference (KJK5H), Oklahoma resided in the Big 8 conference. Included in this conference was Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Missouri, and Colorado.
Of the Big 8's 89 year existence, Nebraska and Oklahoma accounted for a claimed and/or shared 74 titles. The remaining teams combined would claim/share a Big 8 title 28 times.
This conference, save Oklahoma and Nebraska, was a hotbed of perennial losers.
This is the winning percentage standings of these teams based upon current FBS statistics found here.
5 - Oklahoma - .722
9 - Nebraska - .699
37 - Colorado - .581 (actually surprised its this high)
63 - Missouri - .545
83 - Oklahoma St. - .511
99 - Kansas - .488
108 - Iowa St. - .451
110 - Kansas St. - .449 (for real, Bill Synder never gets enough credit)
The average ranking for winning percentage for Big 8 teams is 64.
Compare this with the SEC (before the addition of Missouri and A&M).
6 - Alabama - .718
12 - Tennessee - .680
14 - LSU - .650
15 - Georgia - .649
19 - Florida - .630
20 - Auburn - .629 (let's all appreciate this Big 6 moment: all in top 20 )
32 - Arkansas - .591 (joined in 1992)
52 - Ole Miss - .563
82 - South Carolina - .511 (joined in 1992)
92 - Vanderbilt - .496
94 - Kentucky - .494
97 - Mississippi State - .490
The average standing for SEC schools is 45. Without Arkansas and South Carolina, it is 42.
Since the Big 12 conference merger in 1996, the SEC has claimed 10 compared to Big 12 with 3 (one being Texas, a non Big 8 school).
These numbers not only demonstrate that Nebraska and Oklahoma were the two dominant forces of the conference, but that the conference as a whole was weak, soft, and safer, thus therefore paving the way for Oklahoma and Nebraska to claim 10 national titles in the conference before the implementation of the BCS. Is it any wonder that after the conference realignment in 1996 that these teams have had only one title apiece? I think not.
The evidence is clear. No matter how hard you try, no matter how long you troll, the traditions and power of Oklahoma and the Big 8 has never and will never match up to the historical powerhouse that is the SEC.

Hate to bust your bubble, PAC had the easiest (just Trojans) and B1G (just Ohio State and Michigan) had the 2nd easiest.

I like your too, I could see OU in the SEC one day, but no way in hell I want the Buckeyes to call this place home.

I knew this would piss off some of y'all.
But answer me this: why is the University of Oklahoma initialized as "OU". That makes zero sense. Why isn't University of Texas TU? (Save it Aggies, I get it.) Why isn't University of Florida FU? Is is some corn bred spelling anomaly or what? You have more experience with Sooners.

Because Tulane (TU) was in the original SEC while Texas ran from the SIAA because it was too tough for them. Sewanee and Vanderbilt were kicking Texas arse back when the SIAA was the first real super conference.

There are response threads, and then there's this.

They're not "TU" anyway. It's t.u.

Still waiting on angry OU fans to disprove these facts.

To all of the Oklahomers on this board, let's blah blah blah blah blah.

4-3-0 Texas vs Sewanee
While it looks like a slight edge to Texas, they played all the games in TX because they were to afraid to play in TN
3-8-1 Texas vs Vanderbilt
Texas only played 4 games in TN and lost all 4. Most of the rest were played in Dallas until the shame became too great and they swapped for Oklahoma at the State Fair.
