There's two things going on. Either some of these people truly don't understand football and the level of competency of a freshman QB, or they're closet bigots.
The majority grilling him were probably chanting Hurts for Heisman. The should take a page from his book and not get too high or too low.

I'm not so sure about that.

What Teague said.
He was a true freshman QB with less of an arm than Ardarius Stewart. I saw this coming all the way, but our defense was so dominant that our lack of a QB didn't matter.
Let me just say, I love Jalen. He's got a great attitude, and has a certain mystique about him.
That said, he has to improve as a passer, or he can't play QB at Alabama.

At least some of the blame for Hurts lack of development in the passing game lies right at the feet of Nick Saban. This kid has been berated sand preached to so much about not turning it over and putting Sabans defense in a bad spot on the field, he's scared to throw it at all. And we had a defense this year that could have afforded the kid some mistakes and turnovers. It's hard to learn what you can and can't get away with as a QB if you aren't allowed to try. You've got to let him throw it downfield some into places he shouldn't so he knows when he should.
Granted, you can't get away with that very much in the playoffs but the die was already cast at that point. The Jalen Hurts that made some mistakes of youth but made some plays downfield against USC and Ole Miss was not the same QB that took the field in the playoffs. The gunslinger mentality had been thoroughly quashed by then and it shows.
