I see this line of thinking a lot. Am I alone in thinking 13 out of 20, while an improvement, is pretty average for a state with no in state competition? We act like "beating Bama" for an in state recruit is a huge deal. Shouldn't we expect to beat them for Ga players?
The no in state competition argument isn't a good one, imo. Georgia isn't a place that people grow up with some undying loyalty to the state like people in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have. The growth of Atlanta has had people relocating from all over the country for decades. People with ties elsewhere and no real loyalty to the state. Combine that with fending off major programs right on the border, 13/20 is very, very good.

If we want the 10 year old whose parents moved from Ohio to be a big UGA fan, we're going to need a national championship. That will seed the crop of in-state recruiting dominance over the next 5-10 years.

At the same time, you can only sign 25.
As long as we are first in line with the local elites, I really don't care what state we get them from as long as we are 3 deep with 4 and 5 stars.
So we only get 13 of the state's top 25, I don't care as long as we are making up that difference by poaching a couple top 25 from FL, a top ten from LA, a top ten from NC, a top ten from CA, etc.

BINGO- this is why I started this thread saying Clemson's MNC is bad for business in Athens. Blow the lid off this thing and we'll get just about every Ga kid we want...regardless of how deep his Ga roots are. Every border has someone selling something UGA does not have (at least in modern terms).

We need UGA coaches and players at the middle school level, and even elementary schools, doing PE workouts and doing Drugs are Bad speeches, etc. Motivational stuff.
Or we can just keep putting up billboards and making premenstrual youtube videos.
I'm not talking about "recruiting" children.
Five, 6, 7 years from now, those kids are in high school and being recruited, and the seed has been planted. They remember that moment when Nick Chubb came to their school and signed an autograph and share three sentences with him.... that kid will remember it always.

Or we should just have them do drugs with them.

It matters quite a bit actually. We're all fishing from the same pond.
And Clemson is going to get some players no matter what. An NC won't change that much. If we take care of business and win on the field, it won't matter what other teams do.
