That would be interesting.

I don't think he could be involved in the coaching or preparations of the team, so it doesn't have a lot of impact on anything. I read where he'd be in attendance for our game, but that's about it....

found this floating around the interweb yesterday...

AP
Dec 7, 2016 at 4:54p ET

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- South Florida co-offensive coordinator T.J. Weist will lead the 25th-ranked Bulls in the Birmingham Bowl following coach Willie Taggart's departure to Oregon. Weist, completing his first season at USF, shared offensive coordinator duties with Darren Hiller.

Weist will serve as interim coach the rest of the season, which concludes with a Dec. 29 matchup against South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl.

had a few bad thoughts about Kiffin somehow getting the USF job in time to face Carolina. relieved to see the USF AD has made other arrangements.

I've never seen a new hire coach come in and take over for a bowl game right off.

Think about the disruption that would cause.

Didn't say he would coach guys ... said, (hired) "in time for our bowl game.

Meaning ... the interim is usually coaching under the possibility of maybe earning the job full time - so his players are playing for him.

If Strong is hired then the interim loses that motivation on some level.

If Strong really is going to be attending the game, we have to wonder if it's already a done deal or not and if the players and coaches are already aware.

It makes for an interesting dynamic.

I know losing his job at Texas has to be a kick in the nuts, but would he really just settle for a non P5 job at this point? It's not like he had some Bobby Petrino sized scandal

If USF is gonna pay him $3+ million a year ... that might be incentive enough.

USF is in Conf USA now right?

It's a stepping stone job back into a P5 gig. Four years there, a couple of Conf USA championships, and he is back in the game all while knocking down $60k a week and living in the upscale Tampa Bay area.

Plus, typically, Florida allows the transfer of state pension accounts into their system so Charlie gets to carryover his pension fund that he has built up over the years.

Plus it puts Charlie back in familiar recruiting territory.

It is official now. Strong to USA. 5 year contract. He will take over immediately. Expect hime to keep most of the staff in place for the bowl game.

A Bulls horns looks somewhat like a Longhorns' horns, right? At least in fan hand gesture form.

But seriously, Charlie isn't going to come in and coach a group of players he just met this week in a game in two weeks. I'm more intrigued by the fact that now Strong (at USF) and Kiffin (at FAU) will now be recruiting and coaching against the big boys in that state. McElwain and Jimbo (and Richt) can't be thrilled about that.

He wasn't saying that.

You're right, he's not going to coach during the game I guess ... again, I apologize if anyone misconstrued what I typed to mean that.

McElwain does need to be somewhat concerned. He appears to be having issues. I'm beginning to wonder if he is going to last at UF even when he is going to Atlanta. Something is not kosher down there.

He's not going to hurt Jimbo, Charlie is not going to hurt Jimbo at FSU. Clemson appears to be out recruiting everyone in Florida, and maybe even Georgia, at the moment.

Kiffin is not going to do much damage ast FAU. For the time being at least he is going to have to show that he can find diamonds in the rough, much like what UCF did for awhile.

Richt will eventually own southern Florida - if he doesn't already. Southern Florida is talent rich enough to supply Richt most of what he needs. Everyone else will be fighting over the leftovers down there.

Tampa is loaded with talent too. UF has traditionally sort of owned that area but Charlie will do well in that area and all the way over to Orlando ... pretty much that whole I-4 corridor all the way to Daytona.

FSU controls the north, the panhandle and Tallahassee over to Jacksonville, for the most part.

Florida has typically owned the 75 corridor and scattered areas from I-10 down to I-4 ... but I think UF fans may be starting to worry about McElwain's recruiting prowess, or lack there of, across the entire state. And Florida has, at times, done very well in south Georgia too - but I dunno, things seem to be changing.

I would expect Charlie to try to come back into South Carolina to some degree as well. He did very well for Florida, in both the Carolinas, while he was in Gainesville. But USF is not the draw UF is, as Skip and his crew found out when they got to Tampa.

I have a very good friend who is very very good friends with Charlie. I know Charlie very well too - but not nearly as close to him as my friend is ... I would not be surprised to see some things happen down at USF, under Charlie, that would allow USF to "move up," let's say, in the pecking order in the state of Florida. How Charlie handles the hiring, where he dips into with regard to hiring, that's going to be the intriguing part, the part worth watching.

Strong and Kiffin will be interesting stories in the state of Florida, no doubt. You've always got UF, FSU and Miami. Just a couple two or three years ago UCF finished in the Top 10. Now you've got Strong and Kiffin at their respective schools, you've got the Frost guy, who replaced O'Leary at UCF ... I mean the entire thing is intriguing.

Bottom line though ... if all six programs sign 25 a year they still only sign 150 prospects whereas the state of Florida produces over 300 D1 prospects a year.

Compare that to our what, 15? 20? 25 a year in the entire state of SC?
