This ranking bump is more a product of The Clinton (Miss.) High School back's body of work and state championship game showing than anything he did this week in practice. Akers jumps up to No. 1 in the country at running back, one spot above Najee Harris in the national rankings. The two will both be at the Army All-American Bowl in January competing side-by-side with an equal shot at finishing with that No. 1 ranking. LSU, Florida State, Tennessee and Ole Miss appear to be the top candidates in Akers' recruitment.

I don't think anyone truly knows where he will end up, been a very quiet recruitment process with him.

If he's smart. But Ole Miss is desperately looking for ways to save a little face. Getting Akers would help tied things over in Oxford, before things get really bad.

Not saying he isn't, but he's in a peculiar spot as far as his size goes. Whereas Harris has that big frame to work with.
Very similar to Dalvin Cook in size but not as fast, and at 5'11" it's going to be incredibly difficult to add any weight without losing a step.
The closest to him in size/speed is probably Marshawn Lynch, who has made his mark by being super physical and notoriously playing much bigger than his size.
Cam's work ethic sounds incredible, I'm sure he will ball out wherever he signs. I would say that he needs to go the Lynch route in a power run game, but who knows, maybe he can pick up the speed and play more of an open field style role.
Regardless, if I'm his coach next year I'm watching a shitload of tape on how Pete Carroll utilized Lynch.

But how could we get him if we can't pay him? He's got to know the bowl ban is coming too

I'm not a recruiting expert but to me Akers could easily be the #1 player. Really really want that guy at UT.

Well you guys could call the furniture man and get him taken care of but your other RBs would probably ask for a pay bump

Would that include the one that rushed for 171 yards a week and a half ago?

Hope he goes to LSU.
Come on down Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

I'm hoping for him to go with OM to minimize the impact on us. A run game in that offense isn't happening, and I don't want to get smashed by him every year at LSU.

LSU will always have a great RB.

We're all glad he de-committed. Bama is loaded again, so spread the wealth. I think Akers is the best player in this class, but you guys got a good one in Harris.
