Your comparison was off the begin with.

If the #1 seed in the SEC basketball tournament lost, they would still make the NCAA tournament but it would hurt their seeding. In the same way Bama's seeding in the college playoff would fall if they lost to Florida. Although they would still make it. If anything the example you gave hurts your argument.

Come on, let's try to keep on target here. Someone asked if I thought Florida should go to the playoffs if they beat Alabama for the SECC.

Yes, the conference champion should advance. If you keep them out, and let Alabama advance in spite of the loss, that would be like saying, "Well, we think Duke is a better team than Valparaiso, so we think they should advance even though Valparaiso beat them." Upsets happen. Win the fricking games and advance, lose and sit at home.

I'm not sure why everyone still wants opinion polls to determine who gets in the playoff. We might as well go back to the old system and just vote for who we think the champion is.

Either vote, or don't vote. Either be objective, or subjective. Don't try to be both.
