think it's more schemed out by recruiting. It's hard to get elite guys when the offense doesn't prepare you for the NFL.
The guys who were NFL QB prospects weren't going to those places to begin with though, and theres a lot of HS athletes that could run the option that don't get a chance to play QB at D1 levels.
The RB's are all over the place, and the lineman really don't have to be the freak size of the NFL prototype. The option and zone block guys (like Denver in the NFL) have to be more nimble.
The guys are there, and Malzhan's system (which is essentially the "no huddle" option) has been effective at times by speeding up the pace. Again, the speed of the defense and adaptations to personal changes/subs has caught up again.

Bama didn't even stop a bad team running it a few years ago. Why did Bama struggle with it. Navy scored 75 points and beat Houston this year. Georgia Tech has a winning record. Navy is top 25. These aren't teams with top talent.

good posts man.
I think it has to be pointed out that Auburn was successful when they had an all time great QB and a big fast, strong offensive line. Auburns moder day offensive line is 15-20 pounds heavier than Nebraska's 95 o line across the board. if Nebraskas team tried to run that scheme today thry would be losing multiple key match ups on every snap.
teams like Bama and OSU have defensive linemen that are bigger and more athletic than Nebraska's o line in 95. how many cut blocks can possible make up for this enormous advantage? After watching the highlights, I dont think Nebraska could consistently scheme its way to wins over the better teams in cfb today, especially not the elite tier.
