Croom wasn't fired because of race. Actually I suspect he might have been hired in part because of race. He was fired because he was awful.
With that being said Croom at least produced a decent season, which can't be said for Orgeron.

What if Orgeron goes 7-1 this season with a sugar bowl win? That would be more success than McElwain will ever have.
