Cool new stuff coming to an SEC town.

In the past week or so, these two new venues were announced for the Dickson Street area. One's a 3-screen independent movie theater; the other is a new live theater performance center, unaffiliated with the Walton-funded performing arts center down the block.
These will compliment the Walton Arts Center very well.
I see a week like this and I start to believe the hype. Fayetteville/NWA is the "new Austin" type city emerging right now.

the best thing about Austin is SH130.

Are you saying that just to play up the UT hate, or do you actually have something against Austin? I never really hear of anyone who's been to Austin not enjoying it, I'm just curious.

The only thing to dislike about Austin is that it isn't 25 years ago.
I'm ok with us being a lot like Austin was 25 years ago.
In 25 years I probably won't like it.

Austin is a cool town to visit for a weekend. Probably the most fun of any major city in the South. Wouldn't want to live there for more than a few years if I ever moved there. Their college football team sucks and the color burnt orange is hideous.

Baton Rouge is closer to being what Austin was 25 years ago than Fayetteville is. And I'm not saying that as a compliment to BR.

I actually really hate Austin. No aggieism coming out in that.
It's a great town for the stuff that occurs in it, but the layout, traffic, people, and cost of everything keeps me from spending much time there that I don't have to.

Taxes are high.
Cost of living has skyrocketed.
Too many dirty Hippies inside the city.
A lot of liberal laws forced upon people.
Liberal Racism is rampant.
It's always crowded.
Traffic sucks.
Too many out of state people (Non Texans suck donkey balls).
Hipsters are everywhere with their PC agenda.
A lot of smug yuppies everywhere.
There is always lines for everything.
Not enough freeways.
No nightlife scene outside of 6th street.
And so much other crap...
Sure, Austin has some nice features like the Hill Country, Lake Travis, and a few hiking areas. But it is the people who make it terrible. Too many Californians, Pennsylvanians, and other Yankee sub groups come to Texas because of our jobs, but then want to implement the same laws they had back home that caused their original jobs to go away.

Baton Rouge would be a nice place to live if poverty wasn't so rampant anywhere north of the LSU campus.

That's what I was too lazy to type out.

You don't know what you're talking about. There is the stretch between downtown and campus that needs to be leveled but most of BR south of Florida blvd, which is well north of campus, is perfectly nice.

Austin is too weird/overly pretentious for my taste. Of the major Texas cities, I like it's vibe the least. Always felt that way even before I attended TAMU.
San Antonio es mi ciudad y mi gente.

Just because you don't relate to something, that doesn't make it pretentious

If there is one thing I remember about my last visit to LSU, it was that sketchy neighborhood that greets you as you exit I-10 after the river. That's north of campus ain't it?

I know you like Austin. I prefer SA. We'll never agree. For obvious reasons.
