It doesn't happen in a vacuum...it takes a lot of effort to get a team to look as bad as we have looked against Vandy and Nichols. There may be all sorts of reasons for it but the bottom line is the staff is getting paid very well to perform and they aren't, period....and the way they are performing is very concerning.....Vandy and Nichols is not close to our level of talent....let them do what they did in 4 years of high school and they beat both handedly. It doesn't take a process to beat Vandy and Nichols....it takes simply letting them do what they do....we shouldn't be scrimmaging against Vandy and Nichols but that is exacyly what we were doing...continuing to run shite until we get it right....I understand that both teams are inferior and are basically practice squads....but you gotta win those games.
Want Kirby to have some buy-in from upperclassmen? Stop scrimmaging on game day....plan to win, not to perfect the process....nothing will salve hurt pussies in the locker room like a win....

It may be the process but losing to ine of the worse Vandy teams EVER....and that is a long history of suck.....speaks volumes about the lack of a process. We didn't gave a clue or a plan in that game......it wasn't first year coaching or young QBing....it was plain stupid football....the kind of shite you see on Friday nights when a history teacher who played high school ball is appointed head football coach and has no idea....none....what to do. Smart may be a genius but he dug a hole he may not get out of coming out without a gameplan against Vandy
Hey, and you know what - shite happens. Upsets happen in football. They're something to learn from, especially when you're still getting your feet wet in your first year as a head coach.

More stupid than accepting that Vandy is more talented than us and Nichols is almost as talented as us? That is some bullshite my friend...you have to work hard to dumb down talent to the point where it can't simply outperform less talent....

Literally no one has said that.
More talented teams lose to less talented teams all the time. If you don't come to play, you can get beat. It's fricking sports, man. shite happens. UGA needs to play better.

That and talent is generally not distributed evenly across most teams and our team is obviously lacking in the trenches where it counts most. A house is only as strong as its foundation.
The Vandy game is a good example. Three times their defense stonewalled our offense in the redzone and we had to settle for FG's. Meanwhile one big play/screen pass by Vandy's offense and they were down on our 5 yard line and we could not stop them from scoring the TD that became the difference in the game. There was no finesse involved. They simply lined up with a big back who proceeded to ploy through our defense. Then on our last potential game winning drive, once again their defense did not allow us to get a first down on 4th and 1. You can question the call to pitch out to McKenzie all you want but they had been owning our OL all day in those situations and I suppose Chaney hoped that McKenzie's speed would get us 1 yard on the outside. But without blocking the play was destined to fail.

It does happen all the time and the reason is ALWAYS coaching...either the less talented team is coached up or the more talented team is coached down....Vandy's coach has a track record...he doesn't coach them up....that only leaves one option....and being a new coach is no excuse because he ain't someone who has not been around the game....it is an inability, right now, to coach effectively....and that is concerning....

Disagree. These are college kids. Sometimes they just don't show up. I played on some teams with really good coaches, and we lost some really bad games.

They have college kids at Alabama and at Clemson and Ohio State and they have bad games but the game plan allows them to overcome those games....we go out and scrimmage...we are going to do what we are going to do win lose or draw until we get it right. That may well be the path to the process working but it is certainly painful to watch....

They have a lot better and more experienced players than we do, especially on the lines of scrimmage. That buys them a lot of margin of error. Game plan doesn't have shite to do with it.

Not at all. They're the ones who got them those better players
Kirby has made some in-game mistakes, but we have serious roster issues. Not a 4-year rebuild or anything, but issues nonetheless.

This might be stretching it a bit. We don't seem capable of adjusting our game plan...particularly on offense. Don't get me wrong. Unlike some on here i like a lot of what Chaney has done. We all know that things look a whole lot worse when you are losing and a whole lot better when you are winning.

Derek Mason is one of the most well respected defensive minds in all of football, college or pro. If he gets fired from Vandy, he will be able to name his defensive coordinator job.
As for the comment about Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State having college kids too, they happen to have college kids who are much better than Georgia's college kids at playing football. Even when those three teams aren't playing well, that talent still allows them to win most of their games.

Well, Clemson, maybe not. The other two are usually in the top 2-3 in recruiting every year. Alabama always #1 and Ohio State top 2-3.
I know a lot of people don't like Dabo Sweeney, but lets face it...he is the reason Clemson is a power today. At Clemson it's coaching.

Players on Clemson:
DeShaun Watson
Mike Williams
Christian Wilkins
Dexter Lawrence
Cordrea Tankersley
Carlos Watkins
Mitch Hyatt
Wayne Gallman
Kendall Joseph
Ben Boulware
Artavis Scott
etc.
All are great players. Most are veterans. Watson is a veteran Heisman contender at QB. Get outta here with "At Clemson it's coaching." Clemson was mediocre under Dabo until he upgraded the talent level. That's a credit to Dabo, by the way. That's how you win.

That is a part of coaching, is it not? I mean, by your reasoning, Kirby is not a good coach because he is needing to upgrade the talent and we are not winning?
That was not intended as a slam on Kirby Smart. Dabo has brought a pretty bad (Historically) team and made them a title contender. I don't think it is a bad thing to give him credit. Clemson, even today does not get the recruiting classes we do.

Yes, but then why did you separate Alabama and Ohio State from Clemson? Saban and Meyer brought those guys in, just like Swinney.

Pretty comparable over the past 2-3 years actually. Difference is they hit on a gamechanger at QB, and they have seniors that make plays for them.

Ah! I see what you are saying. The reason i separated them was this...who has a ton more talent? Roster wise, Clemson is not in the same universe. They have a lot of talent, but not in the same conversation as Alabama and Ohio State. yet, Clemson gave Alabama all they could handle last year. Had Alabama not done something completely out of character (The onside kick) Clemson might have beaten them.
You might disagree, but if Dabo had the same talent Alabama and Ohio State has, they might win several National Championships....just based on where their program is right now. Alabama and Ohio State have great coaches...but they also have great talent. Clemson, not so much.

Coaching? Dabo recruited Watson, we did not. Dabo has been able to keep those seniors on campus, we have not. He has managed to develop the talent, we have not. Maybe Smart can with some time. I hope so.

This and Clemson has better players in the trenches and at the receiver positions. And IMHO, Georgia needs to get away from being pro QB U and focus on getting the best athlete at the QB position which has made a huge difference in the offenses at Clemson, Tennessee and Alabama just to name a few.
