I like to learn new stuff and I wanted to start a thread in which we post wikipedia articles that we find interesting. most of mine will be horse racing or music related as that's what I do.

LINK 95% of every race horse on the planet can trace their ancestry back to this one horse. To be classified as a thoroughbred you have to be able to trace the horses lineage back to one of three horses this being the most popular.

LINK One of the other 2 horses that ancestry has to be traced back to to be classified as a thoroughbred. While less than 1% come from the Godolphin Arabian line, 4 of the top 40 Thoroughbreds in United States Racing History, including the best, Man'O War, War Admiral, Sea biscuit, Silky Sullivan all come from this line not the other one.

LINK - The most important broodmare in american racing history. Raced 7 times, never won a race, won a grand total of $146 dollars, then had 14 babies including:

Black Helen - (a filly) winner of the florida derby, tail female decedent of go for gin Kentucky derby winner

Baby League - dam of Busher a top 100 of US horse of all time lister, female descendant of smarty jones and super saver

Bimelech - won 2 thirds of the triple crown (Belmont and preakness) in 1940

Businesslike - granddam of buckpasser arguably the 2nd or third best race horse in american racing history. No question top 5-7.

Easy Goer, Sea Hero, Prairie Bayou, AP Indy, Tapit, American Pharaoh, Seattle Slew, Empire Maker, all trace back to La Troienne's dam line in some way. She's responsible for 2 triple crown winners, 5 Kentucky Derby Winners and 3 of the top 20 best US race horses of all time.

LINK - Oscar Peterson could not believe his ears when someone told him that Art Tatum playing of tiger rag was actually one person, not two. He was so discouraged he quit playing the piano for weeks as he knew he'd never be that good. Was legally blind and had absolute perfect pitch. I'm pretty sure, but not 100% sure, that this guy actually wrote LSU's fight song tiger rag. he definatly played the frick out of it

LINK simply put, the most bad arse motherfricker to ever walk the face of the earth. A japanese chuck Norris, Napoleon and George Washington all rolled into one person.

LINK Tsar Nicholas 2nd oldest daughter who was shot and killed by vladimir lenin. I always thought she was quite hot lol and would be wifey material

i LOL'ed IRL when I read this for the first time. This is when you know you're fricking rich

quote:

On another occasion during the war, when the lady in waiting who usually picked them up from the hospital was detained and sent a carriage without an attendant, Tatiana and her sister Olga decided to go shopping for the first time. They ordered the carriage to stop near a group of shops and went into one of the stores, where they were unrecognized because of their nurses' uniforms. They came back out without buying anything when they realized they did not have money with them and wouldn't have known how to use it even if they did. The next day they asked Chebotareva how to use money.[47]

LINK St. Paul from the bible. To me he's the most interesting person in the bible Most don't realize he's not one of the twelve apostles. Basically a batshit crazy guy who is locked up for half his life writing random ramblings about shite and ends up writing most of the new testament. wrote 13 of the books in the new testament, Yet jesus never thought enough of the guy to make him one of the 12 disciples

Paul was an apostle, as he was "sent" by Jesus and is referred to as the Apostle Paul. He was not one of the 12 Disciples because he was a member of the religious elite among Israelites and spent a lot of time persecuting Christians until his conversion on the road to Damascus.

Anyone ever do that Wikipedia game where you start with one topic and try to get to a different one using just the related links?

Like you'd try to get from mayonnaise to Hitler, using related links.

That is on of /b/'s favorite games. Go to "random page" and try to get to Hitler's page within 6 (or 7) clicks.
