why would CBS or UGA need a buyout? Game still gets played, CBS still televises.

This game is contracted to be played on that weekend in Jacksonville and televised by CBS years in advance. If that contract is broken, the injured parties gets compensation.

UGA getting a buyout is obvious. The game isn't worth as much to CBS in a different location. That's why.

they would play the game one week earlier and might even get a home game out of it. Why would UGA receive a buyout?

lets assume you're right that less people would watch the game because it's not in Jacksonville. You're not taking about a total loss but a partial loss. People would still watch just slightly less people.
