They better.

I really don't see a need to move it based on this latest track.

A lot of people criticize me for being way too chill during the build up stage of these storms, but I really think Nikki Haley should have waited until today to make any decisions about evacuations. I mean, they closed USC for the rest of the week....come on, now.

Bingo. I have a good friend who is a meteorologist in Knoxville, and he has been watching this thing. He told me on Monday that meteorologists always give the worst-case scenario, and that with a hurricane, you really don't have a good idea of what it will do until less than 72 hours out. He said the late Wednesay/early Thursday runs would tell the most.

The early runs didn't detect a high pressure system that is fighting against the low pressure of the hurricane and could push it farther out to sea.

Charlie Bloom emailed The Early Game on 107.5 this morning and stated that it was the University's goal and intention to keep the game in Columbia as long as the safety of the players and fans were not compromised.

I've been thinking the same thing. Calling for evacuations and school closures on a Tuesday afternoon, when the storm isn't even projected to hit until Saturday morning, seemed to be jumping the gun a bit.

I get that resources are needed and it's better to be safe than sorry, but clogging up the roadways and inland hotels this early may cause more headache than is necessary. Making the call 48 hours out offers a much clearer storm projection and also offers plenty of time for evacuation.

My concern is that, with things looking as dire as they were yesterday afternoon, the ball started rolling to move the game before a decision was necessary. Hopefully we're holding out to keep the game in Columbia for as long as possible, but mounting pressure from the governor to move a game is hard to avoid.

ETA:

GFS throwing a curveball (quite literally) on the projections of this thing:

Poor Bahamas getting fricked big time by this model.
