Game 5 of the 91 World Series.
My dad was supposed to get company tickets, but got screwed. I didn't think I was going to go, and at 8, was very disappointed. I taught myself to read using baseball box scores.
Rather than tell me, my dad surprised me by pulling me out of school early. We went home, and I changed into my Braves little league uniform. We went early hoping to find a decent price.
After a few hours of no luck, and less than a hour before it started, a random guy walks up to us. He asked, "are these tickets for you two?" My dad said yes.
They guy said $90. My dad asked if that was for each ticket. He said no, that's for both. My dad was shocked that an hour before the game, we got tickets at face value. Apparently, the guy said he worked in the front office for the Braves.
With both of us thrilled, we went inside and watched the game. The Braves beat the hell out of the Twins in that game.
I've been trying to find a copy of that game for years. Our seats were the first row of the upper deck. I'm certain that they saw us from upstairs, and went down to sell us the tickets. So I'd live to see if they showed me in the crowd on the broadcast.
It's one of the best memories I have as a child.
