I don't think the Smart hire was about saving money. I think the big money guys in the background wanted a) a Georgia man b) a Saban disciple c) a great recruiter and
d) someone who would reach out to the lettermen and reconnect with them (Richt has let this relationship go downhill). When it looked like SC was about to jump and hire Smart, GA made their move. McGarity wanted Dan Mullen but the Prez and the big money boosters nixed that in the bud. Just my opinion.

And you may be right. But it's been a long, long time since Georgia hired a coach who was previously a HC. It worked out with Richt. He took us to another level. Now we are hoping another assistant can take us one more level. However, truth be told, it is much harder to get to the next level from where we are now.
