And just exactly how does one become an experienced head coach with a proven track record. The aren't just born head coaches.

He realizes that. But think about it. What other major college can you name that seems to always hire an assistant and make them a head coach? I can think of one other....Auburn, and it has not been working out for them.

Don't get me wrong, I like Smart and I THINK he will grow into a good coach. But, in an effort to save money Georgia tends to go cheap and hire assistants. I really like the Kirby Smart hire, but I don't know if it is because I am caught up in the mindset of hiring the hot young coach, or if am certain he will develop into a great HC.

I don't think the Smart hire was about saving money. I think the big money guys in the background wanted a) a Georgia man b) a Saban disciple c) a great recruiter and
d) someone who would reach out to the lettermen and reconnect with them (Richt has let this relationship go downhill). When it looked like SC was about to jump and hire Smart, GA made their move. McGarity wanted Dan Mullen but the Prez and the big money boosters nixed that in the bud. Just my opinion.
