When Spurrier decided to quit it was AFTER his program was already in the tank.

Prior to playing A&M in 2014 USC had THREE eleven win seasons in a row. They went into that game not only ranked but preseason favorites to win the east. After that loss that momentum was lost, and USC lost four of the next 8 games. No one ever expected shite out of them since, hence OBC's 11 win program was killed that day.

That loss wasn't as awful as you're making it out to be.

Going into that season, most SC fans were very skeptical that we'd live up to the hype. Many, like myself, knew that Lorenzo Ward was going to be exposed since all of the talent he had in previous years was gone. And look what happened.

The losses to UT and UK that year were MUCH more detrimental to Spurrier's psyche. We had late leads that inexplicably vanished. It was clear he was going to have to fire Ward and hire a new DC if we were going to recover, and he simply didn't have the resolve. Plus, his "2 more years" coaching comment that cost us a great recruiting class was the nail in the coffin for Spurrier. He simply didn't care anymore.

I could buy the UK game being THE game for sure.
