How the frick is self-defense not a rational reason? (Btw with Alabama state law you can leave your firearms in a locked vehicle on campus regardless of the schools policy) But if you follow that policy or that law then you essentially give up your right to self defense until you can get home to get your carry. And not everyone lives a short 10 minute drive away from campus.

During my time at Auburn, it was nice to be able to walk around on campus and not worry about needing to defend myself with a gun for any reason. I understand it's a right, but all rights should be exercised with judgement, not recklessness. If someone decides that he/she needs to carry a gun for 'self-protection' at a place like Auburn University, I would question his/her intelligence and sanity.
