Riiiiight. Texas' ego won't allow them to admit they aren't nearly as attractive of a program as they once were, so this clown has to throw allegations. He's like the loser who the pretty girl was polite to but never wanted to date, so now he's trying to say he never wanted to date her any way b/c of her reputation (which isn't bad).

Take a deep breath. I highly doubt that Bill Powers looked this guy from the local paper in the eye and said Saban was a cheater. At best, this is 3rd hand info. There were probably more degrees of separation than that.

We know some big-$ Texas boosters were making serious overtures to Saban's agent. No way that happens if the university leadership thinks Saban is a liability in terms of NCAA exposure.

This really sounds like some garbage talk from a disgruntled booster (who was upset because the hiring of Strong was an embarrassment), so he told someone who told this reporter that Powers never offered because he thought Saban was a cheater.

That's exactly how it happened. Reporting regarding the Texas program almost always works this way. That's why Chip Brown is wrong 99% of the time. There are quite a few really rich boosters, who don't all get along, who are all jealous of each other's power and influence with the program, who all have loose, braggadocios mouths. When they don't get their way, or when they are in the midst of a turf/influence war with other boosters, they talk their spin to a friend, who runs to Chip, or talk to Chip directly, and then, being a completely credulous person who also has a hunger for attention, he repeats everything he hears without any further research circumspection at all. This is how you get stuff like "Saban bought a house on Lake Austin" and "There is a 0% chance A&M goes to the SEC" reported as fact in Austin.
