just because saban is a great football coach doesn't mean he would be great at picking his successor. he very much wanted LSU to hire Houston nutt when he left and was not happy about us hiring another coach.

He had a fraction of the care for and connection to LSU as what he has at Bama. He likely had some part of him that wanted the next hire at LSU to NOT be better than he was (hence the Houston Nutt thought). At Bama, where he has a deep connection to the school and community, and his legacy is not likely to be threatened by anyone, I'm sure he would more likely recommend someone to continue what he's built.
