I love Back to the Future and in 2015, the creators of the movies released these additional stories and alternate timelines via a 4 comic book series.
It did well.
Now there's 12. While I think the books and writing are very, very good, I'm here to show-off how great each of the covers look. I chose some alternate covers on certain issues because I think they look better than the original covers for those issues.
Issue #1 (2nd of 5 different covers for issue 1)
Issue #2 (2nd of 4 different covers for issue 2)
Issue #3 (1st of 3 different covers for issue 3)
Issue #4 (2nd of 2 different covers for issue 4)
Issue #5 (2nd of 2 different covers for issue 5)
Issue #6 (1st of 2 different covers for issue 6)
Issue #7 (2nd of 2 different covers for issue 7)
Issue #8 (2nd of 2 different covers for issue 8)
Issue #9 (2nd of 2 different covers for issue 9)
Issue #10 (2nd of 2 different covers for issue 10)
It did well.

My favorite part of Back to the future is that it proves that there was a Son of God.

I was gonna wait till page 2 to bring that up but lets jump right in.
I'm sure this thread will be anchored for me having just said that.

As an interim Pastor/youth minister single father of four, I agree with your edit with all my heart, my soul and my mind.

Hard times no doubt but just remember the important scripture: Deuteronomy 25:11-12
quote:
When men fight with one another, and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, then you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

Is this a reboot of your old origin story?

Reboot? It's my story right now, I don't know what else to tell you, pal.

I can remember going to see BTTF 2 in the theater as a young kid, and how my mind was blown by that first part from the "future." 2015 seemed so far away to a kid in 1989, and the future presented in that movie was so excited because it seemed like a promise we would live in it one day.
Therefore I really enjoyed Back to the Future Day last year. I read about 20 articles comparing the future scenes to what 2015 is really like, and I loved the irony that "hoverboards" and Donald Trump got big just in time for that particular moment in time. I loved seeing that some of the things that really amazed me as a kid (like wide flatscreen TVs) came true, and when I rewatched the movies to celebrate the day I enjoyed the positive 80's outlook on the world that seemed to end forever the day the twin towers fell. It was also personally revelatory because that date coming and going meant I was officially 100% an adult, which has been the case for years but it took that perspective for me to leave behind the last little bit of Peter Pan syndrome I still had.
With that said, once the nostalgia wore off I realized that the movies themselves weren't the best things ever. The first one is the best one, but to like it you have to look past the Oedipus issue and you have to be really tolerant of 1950's nostalgia that today seems as foreign as the western scenes in the third movie. The second movie is outright crap outside of the future scenes (and even those have flaws like when they leave Jennifer asleep on a dumpster in a back alley), as it basically just rehashed the first movie but without any cool new reference like we got in the first movie (like "But your kids are gonna love it"). The third one is a pretty boring western because it's a love story of old cheesy people full of (once again) rehashes of scenes in the first two movies. The end is fun but otherwise the most interesting part is the creepy kid that points at his penis.
Suffice to say after Back to the Future Day I didn't really care about the comic books because I prefered to leave as much of that lore in a rose-colored perspective as I still could. I appreciate the future part of BTTF2 giving so many of us 80's kids a life waypoint in which to look back and appreciate what we actually have in 2015 (like no fax machines in the bathroom), but the Jimmy Kimmel skit was basically the end of the nostalgia trip (at least for me personally).
If nothing else I am glad that the creators won't allow a Ghostbuster's type reboot as long as they are alive, which is enough for me.
