Let me start this by saying this isn't a troll, but a serious question since I wasn't even close to being around at that time.

Why was Hornung Heisman considered a travesty? Was it just because Notre Dame had a bad team?

Because Paul Hornung is considered an all time great in college and the NFL. im sure he was pretty damn good that year

3 TDs to 13 INTs on a 2-9 football team aren't heisman worthy any way you look at it

The only stat that he had Majors beat was KR yardage, but think about it, their defense was terrible, he got to return a lot more kickoffs.

Couple that with the fact that he's the only player in history to win the award on a team with a losing record, over a guy who had better stats on an undefeated team.

Hornung was a great football player, but he didn't deserve the Heisman.
