The governor has no say in this. People are comparing this to Gov. Ann Richards "forcing" the Big 12 to take Baylor, but it is a very different situation. In Baylor's case, it was "take Baylor or these three state schools aren't coming." There is no similar threat with UH.

ETA: I just realized I completely misunderstood "President of Texas". I didn't realize he had chimed in and figured the OP was being a wiseass. In my defense the Governor of Texas did earlier. I have to admit I don't get why UT would want UH, unless it is a weird ruse.

Are we sure it was Richards and not Bob Bullock forcing Texas Tech and Baylor on the conference?
