Bateman isn't a scrub. Any weakness he has can be worked on and improved and also schemed around. If you really think about it, getting any true freshman ready to lead the team will be much harder than improving the deep ball from Bateman. Common sense people.

Unless Hurts is a genius and just picks up on everything mentally much quicker than almost every other freshman, his best bet would be to RS or at most have a package for him in certain situations like redzone or short yardage.

Maybe he is a genius and looks at the playbook a couple of times and has it memorized, etc but odds are it will be one of the older guys who has been in the system at least a year. Personally, I think it will be a Bateman/Barnett battle. Only chance BB8 wins it is if he figures out how to protect the ball, which he hasn't done in practice yet. Best bet is Bateman starts against USC...if he owns it, the job is his. If he struggles BB8 will get a shot.

My concern with Bateman is his mental aspects. He just looks incredibly nervous in the pocket, and doesn't seem to work through his progressions. It looks like once his first option is covered, he gets nervous and dumps it to the rb.

I may be off base, but he scares me as the starting qb.

Didn't say he was a scrub. However, he has issues like they all do and we need him to be a deep threat because we are loaded at WR. Everyone has a chance but it's very close make no mistake.
