I don't think they would have shared it if they won...since they beat Oklahoma in week 4 and Oklahoma beat Penn State in the Orange Bowl...Miami probably would have been the outright MNC that year.

Quirks of the polls back then. Had Miami beaten Tennessee the best they could have hoped for was a split. OU was already ahead of Miami in the polls.

Honestly with that defense Tennessee had that year and the way they just obliterated Miami, the Vols had a legit reason to say they were #1 at 9-1-2.
