So he is on the same level coming in as if he had been coached by Lashlee for 3 years?

I'll give Lashlee plenty of shite, but you gotta give him his due as well. He did a fantastic job with NM and did really well with Ryan Aplin at ASU his final year as well.

Lashlee was much better calling plays than Gus last year.

Not sure how you know when which coach was calling plays

The only game i specifically remembered being told Rhett called was the TAMU game. Which was a brilliantly called game for JJ. But I think he just did a good job of managing JJ's deficiencies than anything else. Tons of quick screens to spread out the D then runs up the gut.

I actually live in Atlanta now...well Milton, GA to be exact. I wish i lived in Auburn. One of my best buddies just found out he'll be moving to Auburn and I'm so jealous.

I think White could be much more than he showed with a game plan built for him. I see him doing really well with a little bit of protection. He is not NM he isn't going to break for 50yds, but he can be a threat to pick up short yards to move the chains. At least until he gets hurt. I know this has been beat to death, but I would rather see it put in his hands while Barrett learns and JF3 is used as a wildcat. The whole team is going to have to function on both sides of the ball this year to have success.

Pretty much agree with all of this. The dilemma, to me, is that White is a better QUARTERBACK than JF3 seems to be however a DTQB seems to be the better TYPE of QB to run the offense. So, do you take the better QB but have to alter your most effective offense? Or do you take the lesser of the QBs and run the offense you prefer?
I think SW has a ton of Aaron Murray in him and really seems to have a similar skillset IMO. I think if Gus will just tailor things a little to his skills that we can be much better on O.

A bigger deal than being a DT QB is that Sean White isn't an elite downfield passer (defined as 30+ yards). Malzahn's entire offense is based on vertically stretching the field opening up for big plays

To do this, he would be fundamentally changing his offensive philosophy. It isn't just tinkering but schematic changes

That's one thing that irks me. Not sure WHY he struggles with the downfield passing. It seems that if you can hit the touch throws in the 15-25 yard range that the 30+ throws should be make-able as well. He basically is the anti Nick Marshall. Marshall overthrew everyone, White puts TOO much air under it.

Maybe not. Do you not think that White could operate effectively running an offense similar to what Malzahn ran at Ark St. with Ryan Aplin?

And that is what I think needs to happen. JF3 would have to make some serious strides, and gain some weight or we have problems with starting, melting, switching to SW. I think that was one thing we lose without Roc was that scary slot threat to turn 10 into 50yds. WR is going to be scary with some true freshmen running around. I am not really sure how well SW can do on the long pass, but with some protection he is going to be able to make the right throws better.
I could be wrong, but I would hang my hat on him and work it out. It will be much easier to find a competent QB for the next 10 years than it will be to try and bring Cam and Nick back again and again. I just have no idea why everybody whiffed on JJ last year, and that scares me more than anything else.
