As dominant as the SEC has been in football since 2006, it's baseball dominance is even more impressive. This is a spin off thread from a thread I started in the Rant about Mainieri's record in the SEC tournament, but when I saw these numbers, I had to post them here:

quote:

Since 2008, the SEC has had seven DIFFERENT teams that have reached the championship series at the CWS, with three different teams winning four titles. Since 2008, the SEC has appeared in EVERY championship series at the CWS, making nine appearances there in eight years (with the USC/Florida matchup in 2011), and has had 20 participants in the CWS (that's an average of 2.5 teams per year), never having less than 2 SEC teams in Omaha in that stretch.

ETA: Six different teams have reached the championship. I was counting Arky as the seventh.

Look for some rule changes after this year. They changed the format after 6 of the 8 teams in Omaha were SEC and it looks like 4 or 5 could get through this year.
