In my opinion, if the charges are dropped the school should also drop the punishment. They could do a personal meeting and punish the player in house but following thru with gametime punishment when other institutions would not is foolish and it serves no purpose. Instead of helping players like Nick Saban seeks to do when his kids get in trouble (Robinson and Hooty) we instead seek to punish and shoot ourselves in the foot. It's pretty silly

Exactly. UGA is hurting itself and publicly hanging kids out to dry with the only intention being to gain some sense of the moral high ground over offenses that no one cares about.

Most of these offenses are dealt with by going to a class for a couple hours so the charges get expunged, but UGA makes a big dog and pony show out of it to look tough.

Again, this is a long term problem that UGA has made for itself with its policies. In this specific case, there's nothing to be done unless Kirby feels he has the leverage to make a change to the way things are handled.

Not really. Georgia does not and should not discipline players according to what other schools do. if that were the case we would be holding team votes right now and would be well on our way to becoming Auburn. Every school does things differently.
It's not a matter of "moral high ground". It's a matter of what the school thinks is fair and correct. Moral high ground is something fans claim to make us feel better about school policies that we disagree with. But here is the thing for me. The school has set forth a policy and have told these guys what is expected. the players have been told if they violate these policies what the consequences are. If the players choose to violate those policies they should expect to face those consequences. As fans we need to quit excusing dumb behavior when players knowingly and willingly violate school/team policy.

I also understand what I am saying will get me blasted.
