All of West Virginia is mountains. All of it.
Except that it isn't. Small to mid sized ridges do not equal mountains. Especially in parts of the Western half of WV. I live in Appalachia and see both the mountains and ridges/hills everyday. It's not hard to distinguish between the two.

And they're thickly and lushly wooded in a way that makes California's look absolutely barren
....When comparing them to areas like Joshua Tree and Death Valley in the southern most parts of CA, yes. When comparing it to parts of Central and Northern California this statement isn't close to accurate.
I have no idea what point you are trying to get across here anyways? West Virginia' mountains (like Tennessee's) are more forested in sections due to the difference in vegetation between the two areas ? OK?
quote:
There is a big difference in actually living in the mountains and having them as a weekend getaway that you may or may not be able to see on a distant horizon because they are tall.
Wut -- So people live in the Mountains in West Virginia, but only look at them from afar in California? As somebody who lived in the Sierra Nevada's that's news to me. FWIW, there are probably more people who live in the mountainous regions of California then the entire population of West Virginia 15x over.

That's an incredibly silly statement. 90+ percent of California's population is clustered on the coast or in the Central Valley.
