In a way it's a compliment.

If we were back in the Big 12 with the same record and the same coach all we would hear from opposing fans is how we shouldn't be unhappy with him because there would be no possibility for us to do better.

Here we are actually appreciated inasmuch as it isn't assumed we will fail.
