So you were one of the crabby old "get off of my lawn" types that whined about Widespread Panic getting booked at the Wharf last year?

I have no problem with the event. What I and other have problems with are people cheating the system and the city not being prepared.

There are occupancy limits for a reason.

Hangout Fest produces revenue for the owner of Hangout/Gulf and provides an early start to summer for rentals. But as far as revenue for the town(shopping and restaurants) its severely lacking.

They pack people into condos and dont eat out.

At least HF with the city cleans up afterwards

hypocritical complaining from the Orange Beach mayor. Any mayor of a tourist town who is openly critical of the Hangout Festival

He is jealous. plain and simple. I do find it hilarious at the two cities different statements on similar events throughout the year.

A friend partnered with Bob Marley's family to bring and start a new restaurant chain. It was going to have a reggae band playing all the time. Both OB and GS didnt want that type of crowd and music, but they have no problem with Flora bama, Hangout, and live bait.

That festival sucks now. First two years it was awesome, the lineups after that have all gone downhill.

Miss me some Papa Roccos though, shite was pretty good late night leaving the festival.

Wasn't trying to pick on you personally btw. The spring break crowd does create legitimate problems as do a few of Hangout Festival goers and a few of the WSP fans. Sounds like we agree about the area mayors. Crazy how they disapprove of and basically stereotype certain brands of music and certain drinking establishments when the Flora Bama, Keg, and other places get a free pass because they're culturally acceptable.

I love the FB btw. Just saying the hypocrisy is very annoying. Btw, doesn't suprise me about the reggae discrimination. I'm sure the omnipotent mayor also deemed that to be "not who we are" as a community. One or more of the members may have smoked weed once in their lives so they're too tainted and heathen to be worthy of the mayor.

I think your friend didn't tell you the full story. "The type of crowd" wasn't the reason.

Reggae bars in beach towns draw a lot of middle aged white people who tend to smoke mostly on vacations.
