Just read an article in the post with a top 100 list wondering what some of the board has as their best spots. Pretty hard to narrow down, but here is my best list in a few categories.
Best Deli: Gioia's Deli- Hot Salami sandwich is the best sandwich in the world and if you disagree you are wrong!
Best BBQ: The Shaved Duck- Burnt ends, duck confit and an excellent craft beer selection
Best Steakhouse: 801 chophouse- it's expensive, but premium meat cooked to perfection
Best Seafood: Peacemaker Lobster and Crab Co.- Lobster roll and crab boil are very good. Little expensive for what it is though.
Best off the beaten path place: Petit Peree- this is an old restaurant on Festus Main Street. Not much to say other than the food is incredible.

If you haven't been, it's worth the drive IMO.

The hot salami at Gioia's is awesome.
I also like Blues City Deli.
Salt & Smoke
The Mack for a cheap burger
Adam's Smokehouse
Pho Grand
Bridge Tap House & Wine Bar
Rooster
Southwest Diner
Civil Life is my favorite brewery to visit and I really like the food there.
I still want to try Shaved Duck, Farmhaus, Peacemaker, and Evangelines.

If you're from KC, you're pretty much going to be disappointed with BBQ in STL. The best type of food is Italian. The Hill has lots of great Italian restaurants.
I like Ciceros on the Delmar Loop. Hundreds of beers to choose from and great pizza. I love beer.
Salt and Smoke is just down the street is also good.
Tuckers for steaks.
Espinos in Chesterfield Valley for Mexican
I like Sybergs for fish. Shark bites.

STL has some excellent BBQ joints. It stands up well to KC even if KC is known for its BBQ.
The Shaved Duck, Pappy's, Bogart's, Sugarfire all excellent

The Gramophone in the Grove has great sandwiches and a 20 tap list that usually has about 17 or 18 local craft beers. They tend to get some specialty kegs too.
Bridge downtown has 50 something taps that change about twice a week. If you want to try something while you're there, do it, because it probably won't be there the next time. And they do 4oz pours.
