Meh. Birmingham as recently as a couple of months ago was one of about a dozen metro areas in the country without a pro sports franchise that could support either an NFL, NBA, or NHL franchise. The only one out of reach (according to buying power of the metro area was MLB. That ship has sailed but technically metro Birmingham could support one of those three leagues according to several studies I've seen.

Asking honestly, what would be a good league for Birmingham, if MLB is out. NHL, doesn't do well in the South, and I would think, there are too many long standing allegiances for NFL. The Pelicans are almost an afterthought here.
I honestly would of thought MLB, would be the best option. Only nearby team is Atlanta.
