So why isn't he opening the pocketbook to keep these guys?

If we want to keep them on staff, we should pay them to stay.

If we dont care to keep them, fire them.

Letting them shop around until February and putting us in a bad position isn't exactly ideal. Let's get this outflow under control

Here is Arkansas fan SOP for coach leaving:

Rumor phase:

1. Damn, hope _____ doesn't leave
2. Wish we could have some continuity
3. We brought this guy in for (recruiting, NFL ties, insert extremely specific reason here), hope he doesn't go to (Auburn, Texas, Georgia, LSU, etc)
4. Huge melt

Its happening phase:

1. Is is really confirmed though? No one at UA Athletics forwarded me his revised contract for review prior to departure as I requested
2. This is a case of Bielema "suggesting" he find new employment. No real loss here
3. I've never liked him
4. He was a bad fit with Bielema's system. He just doesn't understand Bielema's unique approach to getting 7 wins and a mediocre bowl every year. Glad he's gone
5. All the players he recruited suck anyway OR He was just a "coach em up" guy, we need more of a recruiter in that role

It happened phase:

1. Lol at (Auburn, Texas, Georgia, LSU, etc) they just got a really shitty coach
2. We only hired him for (recruiting, NFL ties, insert extremely specific reason here) and he sucked at that anyway. Good riddance
3. Bielema has a good track record. I trust him with assistants.
4. Every staff has this much turnover. No biggie
5. Now we can call Pete Carroll

Next coach phase:

1. Holy frick, this guy has ties to (Texas, Florida, Louisiana, state du jour). He would be a huge get
2. Let's steal a coach from (Auburn, Texas, Georgia, LSU, etc). He's a great "coach em up" guy

Disappointing hire phase:

1. Who???? WTF
2. Well Bret met him once in an airport in 2004. I support Bert getting "his guys" into key roles
3. At least we aren't paying this a-hole that much
4. He may have been fired a bunch before, but he has ties to (Texas, Florida, Louisiana, state du jour). All Bert really needs is recruits. Bert can coach em up
5. He may not be a big name, but he can't be any worse that (person who just left us). That guy sucked
6. At least we have top facilities. Coaching doesn't matter as much as a bunch of bricks and steel, especially to kids wanting to get to the NFL. BTW, have you seen our new loge boxes??? TIGHT AS frick!!!

Repeat process above

Perhaps because our pass defense, on all levels, was hysterically bad? Jennings, by all accounts, is a great recruiter. Our secondary, by all accounts, was a blight in the eyes of the Lord.

Why not fire them?!?!?!?!?

Why not, if someone else starts sniffing around, give them a helpful "take that job and walk" nudge so we don't have to pay them to sit around on their backsides and do nothing?

There are people you want to keep. We've fought hard to keep those people, and other then Pittman, have done fairly well at keeping them. There are people you can live without. When we've had the chance we've let them go.

Maybe it isn't about the money to some of them. Singleton and Thomas left for the NFL. Partridge, Shannon and Jennings left to go back to their home states. If we want to keep getting guys with Texas connections then they'll also be more likely to be hired away by a P5 Texas school.

This may not be the thought process of most coaches but even if I was a position coach for Alabama I'd come to Arkansas in a heartbeat if I was offered the job.

He has.... He just doubled what Enos was getting paid. Robb Smith got a huge bump after last season, he doubled Pittman salary after he turned down Bama. Matter of fact, I think Bert bumped up everyone's salary last season.

Nobody who has left is leaving for money....
