yeah, sims definitely "costed" us that game. the one we scored 5 offensive touchdowns in.
Didn't he throw a pick six, or did I imagine that?
I'll admit that Coker didn't do well against OM, but can you admit that Sims choked against tOSU?

I don't know if he was a beast of a qb at the end but he did play very well. Let's not pretend the blown coverages on Howard in the championship were some amazing play by Coker, although he did do great to get him clean throws. The scramble out play in sec champ was great

Does the 2015 d give up an 85 yard td run? We can play this game all day.

not to mention the fact that these 2 players competed in a qb competition and Sims beat Coker out.
or that sims had much better passing and rushing stats and accounted for 12 more touchdowns in 1 less game with a much less consistent running attack to lean on.
or that coker's defense was much better, pitching a shutout in the semifinal compared to the 2014 D giving up 40+ in theirs.
if Saban knew Coker had the clutch gene and was such a winner, you have to wonder why he was starting a choke artist like Sims over him. He should've known. that's how this stuff works. We could be celebrating back to back 'ships if Sims hadn't cost us the game. smh.

Henry was shut down in the CFP minus a few big runs and who had to step up...Coker
Couldn't you say the same for Coker? Both his TD passes were to completely wide open OJ Howard and his longest pass of the game was a short dump off pass to OJ who took it 62 yards. Take out those 3 easy passes from his total of 16 completions and numbers aren't nearly as good. The only game of the season Coker outplayed Henry was in the Mich St game. Look I like Coker but let's try to act like he anything other than a game manager. Sims had almost 700 more yards of offense and 12 more TDs in 1 fewer game.

I don't understand this logic. Sims throws a bubble screen to one of tGOAT Alabama WRs and Sims is awesome, but Coker stands in the pocket, takes a big hit to get the ball out to OJ Howard, is just a great play by Howard and Kiffin.

Did Coke miss a throw in the last two games?
Posted on 2/12/16 at 9:39 pm to chattabama
Ya cause Sims didn't connect to Cooper on any deep balls in stride. Comers were usually with the receiver waiting on it save for the Michigan state throw and a few others if I remember correctly

And Coker didn't connect to Ridley on any either.

Big time time players make big time plays in big time situations. Last 3 games Sims 8-6 TD-INT, Coker 6-0 TD-INT

The point is Sims had to do way more than Coker. He had a quicker ball release, better deep balls, better scrambler, better QB awareness. Only thing Coker was maybe better at is accuracy but not by much.

Like when Ridley had to wait and go between the two flordia guys after having three steps? Look I love coker, great story and I was pulling for him all year. 2 minutes left in the game I take Sims. He is a better passer.

and just to be clear, Coker's stats on passes over 15 yards weren't just below average, they were abysmal.
I like the kid. I am amazed at how strong he closed. Could not be prouder of him. but there is some serious revisionist history going on in here from the Coker camp.
there's a reason the coaches started Bateman in the Ole Miss game. There is a reason Sims beat Coker out. There is a reason Coker didn't get a Combine invite despite his ideal nfl measurables. It's the same reason we kept the training wheels on the passing offense most of the season.
Very proud of Coker. Sims was objectively the better individual player though. Coker was on the better team. The results reflect that.

Until the playoffs, in which case I'd argue that both had to do the same job. One accomplished it, and one didn't. Blake doesn't throw the pick six, and we probably beat tOSU. If Coker threw a pick against Clemson, we likely don't win that game either.

this inclination to assign team results to quarterback performance is a meme as old as football. It's ridiculous though.
If Sims had played Michigan state instead of osu and had the 2015 defense instead of the 2014 version, it might be a fair comparison. as it stands it's disingenuous at best.

Did the defense play well against Clemson

Ugh no, obviously not. what's your point?
Posted on 2/12/16 at 9:48 pm to chattabama
The topic was who do you pick, not who played better in the playoffs. I personally go with Sims and the fact that he didn't play great in the OSU game doesn't change it much for me. Sims and Cooper willed our team to what they accomplished in 2014. In 2015 henry and the d were our rocks in with Coker coming on strong and playing great at the end.
And we still needed an onside and a kick return td to get it done. I've already said it but if I have one drive to win, I go with Sims. Nothing anyone has said has changed my opinion on that at all.

Coker also had 33 total touches in Clemson game while Sims had 46. He just wasn't asked to do as much. I don't see how Sims wouldn't have had just as good as a performance if he had played in same senario as Coker did. That being said both QBs exceded expectations and are school legends but I just think Sims is better.
