The sport is definitely going through an evolution. I think the awareness of exactly what it does to someone's body after playing for 25-30 years is finally hitting the lower ranks and youth leagues.
I wouldn't say it's dying by any stretch. It's a billion-dollar industry and there are enough, notice I said enough and not including everyone in the world, people with the cash to afford going to games. But it's the price you pay when you begin to build state-of-the-art athletic facilities to keep up with the Joneses.
