"Keep in mind that a lot of these recruiting websites and resources are reliant upon revenue of a fan signing up for a team site," Luginbill says. "When that's the case and you have to drive up (subscription) sales, what do you think those sites are going to do? They are going to start pumping and priming players that are committed to their school or considering their school and place them above other players because they are trying to drive subscription sales. "Anyone who says that isn't true is full of baloney."

This shite would make sense if BamaOnline LSU247, AuburnUndercover etc. made up the rankings. But they don't. I don't need to be sold anything to go on and check the top 247, 250, 300 players in the country and how they stack up amongst their peers.

Who do you think is coming up with these ratings. While yes, it's true that it's not just one program influencing the ratings, one guy bumping a rating often creates a domino effect. If you follow recruiting at all, you have to know there are guys that are 2-3 stars all the way through high school that Sr. year seem to be bumped up to high 3 and 4 stars if/when top programs get involved/interested. The recruiting guys are definitely going to defer to coaches in the talent evaluation department, so while it may not be a full star bump, ratings are definitely impacted by how different staffs evaluate a player.

More publicity/interviews inevitably leads to additional attention/further evaluation. Not saying it's any one program that sees this happen, simply that it *does* happen.

The elevating of uncommitted recruits is undeniable though. Last year ESPN told Terry Beckner they'd keep him at or near the top of the rankings if he waited until NSD to announce.

He said he decided on Mizzou in the summer.

Shannon Terry (an Alabama fan, though not Alumni) owns both BamaOnline, the largest subscription-based Alabama site on the internet, and 24/7.com.

Alabama fans are also the biggest customer base for Rivals.com.

Only Scout (and ESPN, but that's a different story) has a fanbase other than Alabama as their leading subscribers.
