It says it here, and it isn't even a very pro-Bryant article.
Actually that link proves my point- that Bear tried to play the revisionist at the end of his career/life to ensure that his legacy wouldn't be tainted in the modern era.
From your link:
quote:
In 1980, just three years prior to his premature death at the age of 69, Bryant told Time magazine that he had wanted to become "the Branch Rickey of football,” referring to the man who integrated Major League Baseball by signing Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
Bryant claimed that around that same time, when he coached at the University of Kentucky, his attempts at signing black players faced stiff resistance from college administrators.
“They told me no,” Bryant said. “So for years, I used to recommend all these great black players to schools up North."
In 1980 he said all that shite, aka right around when historians started turning people like George Wallace into monsters.
Give me a quote where he had the balls to make that kind of comment in the early 1970s and I will happily admit I am wrong about the Bear.

Is it that hard to believe he was told "no" back when Rupp was coaching at Kentucky?
