Atlanta definitely gets a bad wrap as having no character, but I don't think that's really true at all. It's just that the city plays home to so many people from so many different parts of the country and world that it's character is hard to define.

Most people just come to town for a weekend and : goes to a Braves game, World of Coke, Six Flags, the Varsity and Lenox Mall. If that is your trip then you don't see anything on the East side of downtown. That's fine, it isn't a big deal, but it definitely leads to this idea that Atlanta is only those areas and where those visitors "friends live in Alpharetta".
