It can't be duplicated.

The human experiences written as military history and the history of football demonstrate that this is wrong.

Vince Lombardi was a poor Sicilian boy from New York. His parents were poor immigrants and certainly knew nothing about football. They didn't raise a magic boy or some kind of mutant football coach cyborg -- they raised a man willing to pay the price to attain Greatness.

Greatness has a cost. Not many are willing to pay the full price to attain it, because, these things are very hard, and man can be very comfortable without having attained Greatness.

I'm reminded now about a Derek Jeter story. His first year or so in the minor leagues. He wasn't doing so well. He was very homesick and spoke to his parents almost every night often in tears -- OFTEN with talk of quitting. This state of mind lasted over a year, maybe longer, Derek doesn't dwell on that time, so we don't know. But the point is that it took him years to attain Greatness -- years of incredible devotion to his craft.

If your leader isn't striving to attain Greatness, and Greatness is YOUR goal? You hope he changes his tune or you take over his position or you move on to another organization.
