Tigerman gets it. You can't just smear the potential returner anymore. Those guys were always coming up injured. The old way to get an onside side was to:

1. Kick at player on receiving team
2. Send fast, mean LB at player
3. Destroy player
4. Get ball 10 yards
5. Recover ball

Unfortunately the receiver is rendered sterile by the abusive hit before the ball even arrives. Now you have to give that player a change to catch it before you destroy him, saving the lives of the poor bastards on the "hands team."

In the 2014 SC play they smear the SC player right as the ball touches the "returners" hands. The returner can't hold on, and the ball is recovered by Clemson. The Champ game play in no way looks like that play. Dabo is woefully confused. His argument would be the same as claiming Eddie Jackson should have been called for pass interference on his interception because he didn't give the WR a chance to catch the ball. Eddie didn't plow the reciever, he caught the ball before it made it to the reciever. We call that an interception instead of pass interference. FB lesson over
