This is the only year I have really ever paid attention to the Heisman talk due to Leonard Fournette being a front-runner until the Alabama game. What is the purpose of the trophy?

Best player? There's no quantifiable way to determine such a thing objectively or even fairly because of so many variables.

Best player on best team? Well, that remains to be seen, but IF Bama is the best team, in my opinion, Calvin Ridley may be the 'best' player on the team..absolute phenom.

If it's about impacting performances over the course of the season, then Henry is deserving. It's not just the numbers, but when the numbers were amassed. In the biggest games down the stretch with everything on the line. When it came right down to it, Saban didn't put it in the hands of his QB or freaky freshman WR, but in Henry's. All the talk about whether or not he'd be a good NFL RB or that he only succeeded because of the offensive line is irrelevant. HIS performance is all that counts in my opinion. What's lost in the argument of 'well he needed 40 carries to get those yards' is that he carried it FORTY TIMES. And not just once.

McCaffery is an excellent player in his own right and has impressive statistics, but with Henry out there, he would have had to put up 'Johnny-Manziel-gaudy' numbers to overtake him.

Yeah the last couple of sentences are what got me. I mean, it's not like he had 38 1 yard runs and then busted off a lucky 100 yard run. He consistently pounded it carry after carry never looking any weaker. He's like the hulk. I bet he could carry it 50+ times no problem. IMO that's impressive.

Let's also not forget that he eclipsed Walkers record in less attempts.
