No Troll: Should Auburn fire Gus now and just rebuild?

How many wins will it take for Gus to keep his job? 8? 9? There is potential for Auburn to lose 3 straight in October and their record could be looking at anywhere from 4-4 to 2-6 by the end of October. With all the turnover and uncertainty, should Auburn bite the bullet and just fire Gus and accept a slow rebuilding or wait a year?

They can't fire Gus now, but they are screwed for next season.

No they should give him an extension

If we make it three in a row over Auburn next November, the decision will be made automatically.

6 or 7 wins at least just to show they aren't on a downward spiral.

Will he make the whole season if they are 2-6 at the end of October?

No....who would they hire at this point? Firing Gus now would compound the problem.

NO; he may have salvaged JJ by pulling him when he did, and by working with him help him to become a great QB...

Depends on exactly who is leaving.
If T Rob, Lance, and Bentley leave as well, we might as well start over. Gus wouldn't have a fair shake with a new D staff while already being on the hot seat.

Now is not the time for AU to make a move. It would certainly kill any momentum they have in recruiting and otherwise.
The time for AU to make a move frankly is when Saban appears to be ready to hang it up similar to what they did when Bryant retired and they hired Dye. AU should bide their time for now, see what Gus can do, and plan for a move 2-3 years. It's gonna be brutal in the interim but that way they will have the moral high ground to can Gus and better plan the next move.

They're still making Rent-A-Center payments on the new big screen. They cant afford to fire Gus.
Try next year when the dumbest fan base in the SEC believes they're relevant again and are willing to spend the money on the increased ticket price to see high school football.

But how many of these will have to be "moral victories", and do they count?

No, Auburn is an up and down type of team

Gus Malzahn made his living off the back of Cam Newton.
His offense is most dangerous when passing plays break down, but it takes freakish athletes like Newton or Dak Prescott to make that work.
He'd be a fine mid-major coach where cute offenses still work, but his days in the SEC are numbered.
