So Mack was able to hire two star coaches at Houston, but...

...he had to settle on a true son with no head coaching experience at Mizzou? I thought Mizzou was a top 25 program. Do top 25 programs settle? Typically, top 25 programs have no difficulties hiring top coaching talent.

Here's the brutal truth: Pinkel's terrible season (I'm looking at you Ricker and Henson) and the BLM fiasco rightly or wrongly blackballed the Mizzou program as a place no good coach would consider.

Pinkel's blind loyalty to his coaches (for which he's so praised for in the media) cost us the season. He knew Henson and Ricker were completely inept at the beginning of the season but he refused to make adjustments to the coaching staff. He refused to play the best players (for example, Hunt). He refused to try something, anything, different on offense.

And then the BLM chaos and Pinkel's resignation due to the BLM pressure (make no mistake, he announced his resignation early due to the BLM crap, not cancer) certainly made Mizzou's program the laughing stock of college football. Yes, Pinkel has cancer. But if he knew about it since May, why would he announce his resignation at the height of the BLM protests instead at the end of the season?

I recently asked you a simple question: If you were a head coach looking for a better job, would you consider Mizzou with all the chaos we've experienced in the past 2 months?

Most of your responses were hateful and willfully blind. Most of you weren't honest with your response or yourself.

The truth of the matter is that we didn't hire a homerun coach. You're a fool if you argue that Odom is a homerun hire. He's been good with defenses the past two years, but he's not yet a homerun hire.

The true star of the defense was Coach Kul, who by the way was a star long before Odom came to Mizzou. It's not like Odom turned Kul into a star last year. The reality is that Kul made Odom's defense FAR better and Odom received most of the credit.

Odom was simply a backup plan. Mizzou hired the backup plan because we couldn't hire the homerun.

How does that make you feel? Houston...fricking Houston...has had two star coaches in the past 5 years, but Mizzou can't hire a star coach after winning back-to-back SEC East championships in the past 3 years? And, we can't hire a star coach with an AD who hired Houston's star coaches? So, you're telling me that it makes sense that Rhoades could hire two incredible coaches at Houston but couldn't accomplish that at Mizzou with our SEC money, access to SEC recruits, and supposed "stellar" reputation?

bullshite...and you know it.

Look, I hope Odom does well. I really do! I want to see Mizzou succeed as much as anyone. But I must be honest and tell it the way it is.

Here's what's happened in less than a year:

- Back-to-back SEC Champs to worst offense EVER with best defense EVER. Unbelievable.

- Pinkel refuses to make coaching, player, or play calling adjustments and pretty much concedes the season.

- BLM singlehandedly destroys Mizzou's national reputation, forces Mizzou leadership and Gary Pinkel to resign.

- Mizzou's AD is unable to hire a homerun coach or any decent coach with actual head coaching experience and settles on our backup plan.

- Mizzou likely to lose Coach Kul, the true star coach on the entire staff.

- Mizzou fans rejoice as if we just won the lottery all while knowing deep inside that we lost the lottery due to negative perceptions about Mizzou.

We can thank Pinkel for the mess. We can thank Pinkel for destroying the program in less than a year. And, we can thank Pinkel for choosing the wrong side during the BLM fiasco.

What's crazy is that Mizzou will probably build a statue of Pinkel and/or name a building after him.

And yet we celebrate as if we won the coaching lottery. Sad.

That's the brutal truth, folks.

Back page news, no one ever remembers this happened.

The unwillingness to address reality was real when this whole situation with BLM broke, and the unwillingness to address reality continued when Pinkel announced he was sick the same week the truth came out and finally the unwillingness to address is why we celebrate this hire.

Sucks sucks sucks

Normally I hate these types of hires but I'm ok with this one. Odom is the type of coach that would have been a head coach somewhere else eventually. It is a risk but it always is. We'll see how it goes. At least it's a better hire than SC. Odom hasn't proven he's a loser yet. Muschamp has....at Florida.

I am disappointed we hired a guy who has no HC experience.

Side note: I am really starting to fricking hate the "True Son" crowd. Now, stop and think about what I just said. And no, I do not self-loathe due to my handle here.

I've hated the true son crowd for a long time. It's retarded. A true son should only be reserved for people FROM Missouri...not players on a Mizzou team from areas outside of Missouri who have zero Missouri identity or understanding of Missouri history.

You know who is a true son? David Freese (former St. Louis Cardinal player)...raised in Missouri and played his heart out for the hometown team. Became an unlikely star for the Cardinals during the 2011 World Series.

You know who aren't true sons? Pretty much all of the Mizzou team and coaching staff...especially the BLM football players. frick them.

I'm with 808 on this one too.

I said this in another post about the Odom hire, "Mizzou acted like a mid-size program (again) instead of a power. Mizzou chose to chance mediocrity or worse instead of going for it."

Mizzou not having a permanent school Pres. and Chancellor was a weakness in the hiring process. A new HC would want these two to have his back, no doubt.

Don't forget the Maty drama of 2015.

Killz - I like you. I like that you stir-it-up. But as 808 says, little over the top. But your newer allegiance to Bama pisses me off. I don't like turn-coats. Please just move on from Mizzou.

UGA just hired a true son.
USC just hired a guy with less than half of a season as an interim HC. Truth is there weren't really any home run coaches out there to hire.

Maybe Richt, but he went to Miami. Which he happens to be an alum at.
