Stacked field, including defending national champs Ohio State. Big dual against the Buckeyes on Dec. 15th at the Hearnes.
Starting with the bad news. Grant Leeth out for year with neck injury. Was a 141-157 guy.
The 10 guys we have registered for Vegas are 125-Barlow, 133-Synon, 141-Manley 149-Mayes 157-Fortuna 165-Lewis 174-Butler 184-Miklus 197-J'den 285-Romero.
3 others will be headed to the Penn State Open. Jaydin Eirmen, Joey Lavalle (redshirt seems to be real), and Dylan Wisman. Another solid tournament for the redshirting studs.
Notes- Lewis is back in the lineup. Had a ding from the Lindenwood tourney that kept him out of the UNI dual, but is ok now. Fortuna seems to have taken over 157, perhaps for the season.
Should be a really tough test for everyone. Place here and you are on solid footing to make the NCAA's.

Man I have a hard time believing that we don't have anyone better at 157. I get it at HWT because there's no competition there. But we have a number at 157, granted a number of them are freshmen like Fortuna. But those are the only 2 glaring holes I see. The rest are competitive at a minimum, though I'm still a fan of Jaydin getting the starts, though I'm not upset if he redshirts.

Thats the thing. Fortuna and probably the younger McCormick will be good there in a few years, but only the elite can make the jump as true freshman, especially the middle weights. Riding time, learning how to actually get out on bottom as opposed to never being there in HS. It is a completely different world. Some never make the transition.
Kinda feels like Brian Smith is throwing the towel in on this season, considering Penn State will likely run away with everything. Get Wisman and Jaydin a year of experience and prepare for next year and a title run.

125 is Stacked. 5 returning All-Americans at the tournament.
133 has a tough top 5. 141 is pretty weak. 149 is really weak. 157 is weak nationally, and here too, 165 is pretty stacked. 174 is solid...but missing BoJo. 184- Very good, 4 returning AA's. 197 decent, should have a good finals match for J'den. 285- Solid, although it doesn't really matter.

149- Mayes 2-0. Bye. Sleep walk to quarters.
157- Fortuna 1-1 with 2 byes so far. Nice 4-3 victory in consolation.

125: McGhee has me convinced. Strong showing. Big fall over #3.
133: Synon is meh. He'll win some but he'll lose some. He'll qualify. He'll lose in the tourney but he'll get some points along the way. Much rather see Jaydin.
141: Manley wrestling well. Would like to see him take the next step against ranked opponents.
149: Mayes with lots of bonus points, as he should. Good to see him get them instead of relaxing.
157: Actually liked that Fortuna kept wrestling. Not a qualifier but some improvement being shown maybe?
165: Lewis with pins all over the place. Not sure if he'll AA or not because he's susceptible to a loss, but he'll get a ton of bonus points along the way.
174: Butler is legit.
184: Big win over #4. Gonna need him to keep wrestling with a purpose.
197: Cox is just a beast when he wants to be.
285: I get struggling. I'm shocked by being so completely dominated. I think I can count how many points he has all season on my two hands. Forget wins.
