Daniel Lewis takes away the "Most Falls in Least Amount of Time" Award. 5 first-period pins for @d_lew02 at #CKLV.

125: Barlow had a decent tournament. Faded in almost every match, conditioning is subpar right now. Was down 8-2 in the 3rd when he pinned Tarao, for his first CAREER pin. Tarao was an AA last season. 4th place is a pretty solid tournament in this stacked bracket.
133: Synon just got a bad draw. Lost to a returning AA and a 2x D2 national champ. Not a bad tournament, just a bad draw.
141: Very happy with Manley. Got some big wins this weekend. Can close matches out better, but a solid tournament. 4th.
149: Pretty weak bracket for Mayes. No real competitors in the top of the weight. Did as expected.
157: Fortuna did better than expected. He should get better and better as he adjusts to the college level. couple wins was great.
165: Both exciting and disappointing. 5 first period pins is great...but he needs some work after the first period. Ended up getting a pretty good win over Moore from UNI. 3rd is very promising. Especially if he can get some consistency.
174: Tough loss for Blaise in the semis, had a solid lead and kinda choked it away. Came out angry after the loss and dominated. Would have been nice to see him face off against Realbuto, but there will be other chances to see him. 3rd is a decent showing.
184: Willie got screwed in the semis. Had a late takedown that would have put him in the finals, but they reversed it after a video review. Gave up 8 points in the 3rd period of the 3rd place match, which is alarming. 4th isn't terrible, but could have been 1st very easily.
197: J'den was never in any danger. But he did get a very good win against Pfarr in the finals. Well deserved title.
285: Romero is awful on bottom. Was up 7-3 in his 2nd match and got pinned.
Lots of bonus point victories, but we gave up alot of 3rd period leads in our losses.
My ratings of performance (1-10, 10 being best)
Barlow - 7. Pretty good, but some lapses.
Synon- 5. Won what he was supposed to, lost when expected.
Manley- 8.5. Very good performance. Finally getting back to his true self.
Mayes - 6.5. Decent, but no real studs to face.
Fortuna- 7. Much better than I expected. Still lots of work to do, but some great progress.
Lewis- 8. Love how good he is a pinning, but still learning and adjusting to the college game. Probably hasn't seen 3 full periods since his freshman year of HS with this much regularity. Should get better and better.
Blaise- 8. Dissapointing semifinal loss, but other than that, an excellent tournament. Should be our most reliable spot behind J'den.
Willie- 7.5. Wrestled Dean really well. But seeing him choke away the 3rd place match was a bit concerning. Not bad though.
J'den- 8.5. Wasn't too tough except for the finals. But that performance alone was worthy of the ranking.
Romero: 1. Terrible. Getting pinned with a big lead is inexcusable. Needs to get better on bottom really quick.

Thought Mayes was a little better than that. Not his fault who was in the tourney and if I remember correctly, he did come away with bonus points in a good number of his matches. I thought last year he'd sit back and take it too easy in those kind of matches when we really could have used the extra points. Was good to see him grab what he could instead of coasting.
Romero's not good on top, on bottom or standing up. He can't defend a thing on his feet. I've only watched a couple of his matches when they were streamed and he almost seemed to be completely disinterested. No effort. Just wanted to get out of there asap.
