The problem with that is the AAC, MWC and others will start crying about their champion not getting in.
You could fix that by having the plus 1 being the highest ranked non-Power 5 conference champion...

Yeah, not gonna happen. In this scenario there is no way for ND to make the playoffs. The media would not allow that to happen.
