Stoops has put together 3 top 40 recruiting classes and one top 25 class and is on track for another top 25 class based on 247's rankings. I know that recruiting isn't everything, not even close, but if Stoops doesn't get over the hump and gets canned next year he has undoubtedly left the program in better shape than when he arrived despite the lack of success on the field.

I agree with all of this. I'm beginning to think he isn't HC material, but I am willing to see what changes he makes and what the offseason looks like. Hope he can keep his recruiting class intact. Lots of needs in the upcoming class, even if freshmen.

Gary Pinkel and Dan Mullen are great examples of coaches who haven't recruited like Saban but still produced excellent results for their university. Bitter as I am right now, I don't have any doubt about Stoops' work ethic. He'll do whatever he can to get this fixed. Thing is, is his "good enough" actually good enough. The answer is not looking promising.
