Yep. Two of the top 7 jobs are open right now. That's a tough year to look for a coach, especially when considering the consequences.

I assume you are talking about USC and LSU? I think we will be able to count Texas in the mix this year or next.

Looking at their history, USC seems to go after coaches with HC resumes from relatively major teams. LSU the same, and Texas is at least WILLING to look at up and coming coaches....but HC nonetheless. We also have USCe in the mix. The hottest coaches right now are Herman and Fuentes. It wouldn't surprise me to see LSU go after an Art Briles type. LSU will go after an offensive minded coach. Rumors are out there that Cip Kelly could be coming back to the college game, so that would make him a major target for any of the top 3 teams. (Texas, LSU and USCw)

If ANY of the main coaches decide to stay at their present position, that would leave UGA out of the mix, for sure.

Honestly, I think UGA will go after a big coach this time. They haven't before, but they are spending money (IPF, Pruitt) so that's why I think they will bump the salary offer up to 5 million if necessary for the right coach.....but then again....who knows?

USC tends to go with guys who have California/Weat Coast connections. Sark had been an OC there and then HC at UW. Kiffin, while pulled out of Knoxville, had been both OC and HC of the Raiders. Carroll was born in Cali, played college ball in Cali, and coached there, too. I could see them going after Chip Kelly.

LSU should go the OkSt route again, honestly.

Honestly, if we fire Richt at this point, I think it's reasonable to say that Kirby Smart is the odds on favorite for the job. Honestly, it could be a lot worse. He is probably the one who would have the best chance of keeping our defensive staff together, he'd bring Scott Cochran, and he apparently has a very, very extensive Rolodex of other coaches from his time among the ranks. Without a doubt, he'd assemble one of the best recruiting staffs in the nation.
